Metal Roofing
Long-lasting, energy-efficient protection built to handle everything Ohio and Pennsylvania weather can throw at it.
Metal roofing has become one of the fastest-growing choices for homeowners who want a roof that outlasts a traditional asphalt system. A properly installed metal roof can last 40 years or more, sheds snow and ice efficiently, and reflects solar heat to help keep energy bills down in the summer.
AMG Roofing and Contracting installs both standing seam and metal shingle systems, with attention to proper fastening, flashing, and underlayment so the roof performs as well in year twenty as it does on day one.
- Standing seam and metal shingle profiles available
- Reflects heat to help lower summer cooling costs
- Excellent shedding of snow and ice in winter months
- 40+ year material lifespan with proper installation
- Wide color selection to complement any home style
Metal roofing, in plain terms
A metal roof is formed from coated steel or aluminium panels. What matters most is how those panels are fastened. Standing seam hides the fasteners under a raised, folded seam, so nothing that holds the roof down is exposed to weather. Exposed-fastener panels — the ribbed sheets you see on farm buildings — screw straight through the face with a rubber washer under each head. Both are legitimate; they sit at different prices and ask for different maintenance.
Metal expands and contracts with temperature more than shingles do, and a properly built metal roof is designed to let it move. That is why fastening detail matters so much: a panel pinned in a way that fights its own expansion will eventually work its fasteners loose or oil-can along the flats.
What metal does well
- It sheds snow and water
- Snow slides rather than sitting and melting into ice at the eaves, which is a real advantage in a winter like ours. Worth pairing with snow guards above doorways and walkways, because it sheds when it decides to, not when you are ready.
- It is light and long-lived
- Metal typically weighs less than the asphalt it replaces, and it does not lose granules or dry out the way asphalt does. Coatings carry their own ratings for fade and chalk, which is usually what ages first.
- It suits long, simple runs
- Barns, additions, porch roofs and low-slope sections where shingles are a poor fit are often exactly where metal makes the most sense — sometimes on part of a house rather than all of it.
Where it compromises
- It costs more up front
- Materially and in labour, since panels are cut and formed to the roof. The case for metal is usually made over a long horizon, which only works if you intend to stay.
- Exposed-fastener systems need attention
- Those rubber washers are a wear item. On a long-lived panel they will generally need going over at some point, and neglected fasteners are the most common source of leaks on that style of roof.
- Repairs and matches are harder
- A dent, a botched penetration or a later addition needs someone who works in metal, and matching a colour years on is not always possible. Softer metals can also dent under significant hail, which is cosmetic but permanent.
Most of the worry about metal comes down to two things, and both have plain answers. The noise: a metal roof over solid decking and underlayment — which is how we install it on a house — sounds very different from a bare panel over open purlins on a pole barn. The cost: metal earns it back over a long horizon, so it is a good decision on some houses and the wrong one on others. We will tell you which yours is.

Insurance Claims
Storm damage? You should not have to take on the insurance company by yourself.
A roof claim is its own job on top of the damage — photographs, deadlines, language your carrier expects, and an adjuster who does this every day while you do it once in your life.
We inspect the roof, document what we find in the form your insurer wants it, and where we can we meet the adjuster at your property so somebody is standing there who reads roofs for a living. Then we do the work. Most homeowners tell us the second part was the part they were dreading.
